Users and roles
In Outperform, a user can view all information in the application but will only be able to edit the information that they are responsible for, as designated via their roles. An important part of the holistic integrated planning system is that all users have visibility into what is happening upstream and downstream, but only the relevant users have the authority to control their area of responsibility. This openness supports the cross-functional working methods needed for a successful sales and operations planning process.
Therefore, one user can have access to the system and only be a viewer, while another user can have access to only edit sales forecasting. In addition, roles can go another access level deeper to specify that a certain user can only do sales forecasting for a specific region or collection of customers.
The “Users”, “Roles”, “Users and roles,” and “Users and data” reports can be found in the Administrator section of OP:
- Users - The Users report shows the name and login ID for each user that should have a role in the system. New users can also be added using this report but note that access at the database level is required for a successful login, so being listed in the users report alone is not enough.
- Roles - Description of each of the roles that exist in the system.
- Users and roles - This report is used to designate the application roles a user can access.
- Users and data - The user's access to specific data groups is controlled here. The typical examples for data groups used to restrict access are countries, regions, customer groups, and product categories. The combination of the user role and user data access role will create the complete user access profile. Example: there are three users, each with the role demand planner but each one responsible for a different region. Assigning each user to the appropriate regional data access group makes it so that the three demand planners will only be able to edit their region's data.
